PURPOSE: This course is designed to prepare students with the skills, knowledge and competency to design and perform cosmetic tattooing as well as manage infection control within a cosmetic tattooing context, primarily in specialised or beauty therapy settings.

Melbourne College of Cosmetic Tattooing of 52-70 Sparks Avenue, Fairfield, VIC 3078 I 03 9482 1933 provides the facilities and venue for this program on behalf of RTO Melbourne Pty Ltd (RTO Melbourne). All responsibility for program structure, delivery and assessment is conducted and managed by RTO Melbourne Pty Ltd.

Skillset Overview
These units reflect the role of skilled operators who applies a range of cosmetic tattooing skills in a variety of work contexts, primarily in specialized or beauty therapy settings.
These units are designed to prepare students with the skills, knowledge and competency to design and perform cosmetic tattooing as well as manage infection control within a cosmetic tattooing context.
Recognition or Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available and all students are offered the opportunity to participate in RPL upon enrolment. Recognition of Prior Learning is generally recommended where individuals have been working in a relevant job role for at least 2 years; however, any student can also self-elect to undertake RPL.
The RPL model used by RTO Melbourne is a guided and supported process that relies on the candidate’s ability to demonstrate their competence by answering verbal questions from an assessor, providing referees and, where possible, having their practical skills assessed in the workplace.
Unlike other RPL models, written evidence is used to back up and support RPL assessment, rather than being based entirely on it. The RPL process will include a number of discussions and observations between the candidate and the assessor, which provides the candidate with an opportunity to demonstrate level of skill and knowledge.
Credit Transfer
If a student provides suitable evidence, that they have successfully completed a unit or module at any RTO, RTO Melbourne Pty Ltd will provide credit for the unit or module. Credit Transfers will only be applied where the competency is evidenced by:

AQF certification documentation issued by any other RTO or AQF authorised issuing organisation, or
-
Authenticated VET transcripts issued by the Registrar.
Delivery Requirements
The course takes place over up to 6 weeks in total including:
-
2 hour face to face and Orientation, (this can be done via zoom or in person)

5 weeks 136 hours of Distance study with 1 hour of one-on-one phone support per week with the Trainer/Assessor. This must takes place prior to the face-to-face training component.

1/2 day (4 hours) of face-to-face training and assessment for infection control
-
1 week (Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day) of face to face one on one training and assessment for cosmetic tattooing

Assessment will be conducted individually and students will be provided with a Student Assessment Booklet for each unit
of competency which includes:

There are a variety of assessment methods used for this skill set include:

Placement or Portfolio requirements
In order to successfully complete the units SHBBINF001 Maintain Infection control and SHBBSKS003 Design and provide cosmetic tattooing you are required to complete a portfolio of your work.
Skillset Outcome
Upon successful completion of SHBBINF001 Maintain Infection control standards and SHBBSKS003 Design and provide cosmetic tattooing the student will be issued with a “Statement of Attainment”; these units form part of the Diploma of Beauty Therapy, of which student can pursue further study in this course.

Nationally Recognised Training does not occur GST. Students will only be eligible to receive their qualification if fees have been paid in full and all course requirements have been met. Student Support Services
Individual Support needs will be identified during the enrolment process and/or as a result of the language, learning and numeracy assessment. Where individual needs are identified an Individual Support Plan will be put in place and agreed to by the student and CEO.

Students who complete this course may wish to continue their education into such courses such as the SHB50115 Diploma of Beauty Therapy or other beauty therapy qualifications such as the SHB40115 Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy or the SHB50216 Diploma of Salon Management.
Students who successfully complete this course may be eligible for credit transfer where these units of competency have been included by an RTO in one of these qualifications.
